Margaret and Michael Smith

Drinking beer and running. Not the likeliest combination of extracurricular activities, but for Margaret and Michael, the combination was perfect.

“We met at the Bearden Beer Market where Mike worked,” Margaret said. “My friends and I regularly hung out there and participated in their Monday night fun runs. The Bearden Beer Market hosts a weekly fun run, every Monday, year-round where a typical run is between 3 and 5 miles. Mike and I first met after one of those runs in fall of 2013 and started dating in the summer of 2014.”

Since Margaret was in Knoxville teaching at The Episcopal School of Knoxville, the couple dated long distance while Michael attended graduate school in Memphis. “At one point, Mike came home to talk to my parents about our engagement,” Margaret explained. “He ended up proposing that same day at my parents’ house. He proposed a week after my birthday in January 2017.”

The wedding ceremony took place in September 2019 at RiverView Family Farm.

“We both wanted to have an outdoor ceremony and chose RiverView because of its location and killer view of the water,” Margaret stated. “We both grew up near the lake, and RiverView reminded us of our home. Our wedding would not have been what it was without our incredible planner and florist Eileen Sommi from Windsor and Willow. At the start of planning, all I had in mind were the colors lavender, gray and navy, and she helped bring to life an entire vision from those colors. The reception and decor felt plucked from a French countryside. There were bunches of lavender on our guest and gift table, in baskets at the ceremony and on the tables. The bridesmaids’ dresses were from Birdy Grey’s silver palette. The dresses were silver with purple undertones, and the groomsmen wore navy suits. Everything came together perfectly, and it was a day we will never forget.”
