As we enter November, the season of giving is upon us. The holidays are approaching, and many of us are beginning to think about how we will celebrate with family and friends. This time of year also offers an opportunity to reflect on the people who make our community such a special place to call home. In this issue, we celebrate two things that are at the heart of our magazine: the people who lead and the organizations that serve. Our annual Leading Ladies feature recognizes women from a variety of industries who are making an impact through their careers, leadership and involvement in the community. These women have different backgrounds, but they share a commitment to making a difference. Throughout this issue, you will also find information about local nonprofit organizations creating a lasting impact across East Tennessee.
The timing of this issue feels particularly meaningful as we approach the midterm elections, and it seems nearly impossible to escape the political discourse that surrounds us. Differences of opinion dominate conversations, headlines and social media feeds. At times, it can feel as though we are more divided than ever. Yet, as I look through the pages of this issue and reflect on the countless events and fundraisers our team has attended throughout the year, I am reminded of something important: We are far more alike than we are different. I believe most of us ultimately want the same things. We want our children to have opportunities, our neighbors to feel supported and our community to continue to thrive. We may have different ideas about how to accomplish those goals, but the desire to make East Tennessee a better place is something that connects us.
One of the greatest privileges of my role as editor is having a front-row seat to the good happening all around us. There are so many helpers in East Tennessee. Sometimes, amid all the noise, we simply need to be reminded to look for them. As we head into the holiday season, I encourage you to focus on the things that bring us together rather than those that divide us. East Tennessee is fortunate to have so many people willing to step up and make a difference. Their generosity, dedication and willingness to serve are what make this community strong.
Thank you for continuing to support VIP Knoxville and the people and organizations we have the privilege of celebrating. I wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving and a season filled with gratitude.
