Season Opening Celebration

Story and photography by Megan Venable

Patrons of the Clarence Brown Theatre gathered in the East Club of Neyland Stadium to celebrate the opening of the newest season of shows performed on the stages of the University of Tennessee campus. Attendees enjoyed cocktails and a reception buffet along with sweeping views of downtown and the Shields-Watkins Field before being escorted to the Theatre to see the initial season show. The opening performance, “Candide,” is the third collaboration between the Theatre and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, who perform on stage with the cast throughout the operetta.

A function of UT’s Department of Theatre, the Clarence Brown Theatre is a learning lab for students studying for the stage and screen at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The department employs professional faculty acclaimed at national and international levels in order to provide the community high-quality performances and productions, as well as an effective educational experience for students engaged in the program.
