Legacy Fais Do-Do

Story and photography by Liz Lyons

The sounds of two-stepping and the smells of gumbo recently filled the air at The Standard in downtown Knoxville during the Legacy Fais Do-Do. This cajun dance party to benefit Legacy Housing Foundation brought Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, known as the world’s most exciting Cajun band, to Knoxville. The mission of the Legacy Housing Foundation is to provide innovative programs, life-enhancing services and strong affordable housing communities for everyone in need. These efforts include the planning, financing, development and ownership of affordable housing properties as well as charitable activities based on the following strategic goals: to uplift the lives of people living in affordable housing, to empower residents through education and to improve availability of healthier and happier living standards.
