Covenant Health Names Chief Financial Officer

Covenant Health is pleased to announce Joe Dolan as the health enterprise’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer. He succeeds John Geppi, who is retiring from Covenant Health after serving as CFO for 23 years. Dolan will assume his new role on July 31.

Dolan will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and strategic financial planning for the health system. With more than 17 years of experience in healthcare and finance, he joins Covenant Health from Atrium Health (newly named Advocate Health) in Charlotte, N.C., where he served as senior vice president and enterprise controller of one of the nation’s largest health systems.

“I am very pleased to welcome Joe Dolan to the role of executive vice president and CFO,” said Jim VanderSteeg, Covenant Health president and CEO. “He will be an asset to our executive leadership team and to all of Covenant Health. Thanks to his predecessor, John Geppi’s leadership over more than two decades, Covenant Health has the financial resources available to accomplish our mission and to grow in service to our communities. Joe brings a similar heart for service to our organization, along with business expertise and years of experience navigating the financial challenges of healthcare.”

“I am honored to join the incredible team at Covenant Health and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next CFO,” said Dolan. “Covenant Health has a tremendous track record of an unwavering commitment to patients, families, and the people of our region. I’m excited to work with the organization’s many dedicated and talented healthcare professionals. I also look forward to working with healthcare leaders to contribute to the transformation of improving the quality of life through better health in East Tennessee and beyond.”

Prior to Atrium, Dolan held various finance leadership roles at Wake Forest Baptist and Duke University Health System. Dolan has served as a board member for CHESS LLC Finance; Wake AirCare, LLC; Wake Forest Emergency Providers, and Wake Forest Baptist Outpatient Imaging.  He began his career in public accounting with Grant Thornton LLP and is a licensed Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) and as an active member of HFMA is a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP). He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
