Knoxville Opera Goes To Church

Multiple standing ovations by a large crowd who have shouted “hallelujah” at the nine previous performances of Knoxville Opera Goes to Church…A Celebration of Talent! The 10th annual concert, sponsored by Home Federal Bank and The Fifth Commandment Fund will feature the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir and local soloists together with Knoxville Opera artists in a unique presentation of gospel, spirituals, and operatic gems.

“We are the only opera company in the world that has its own Gospel Choir and we are proud to present our eclectic repertoire featuring outstanding local and visiting guest artists.  Our performances are an inspiration to both the performers and our very enthusiastic audience. We always make sure to give them something to cheer about!” said Jeanie Turner Melton, director of the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir.  

The program’s gospel/spiritual selections will include When all God’s children get together, Glorious everlasting, Give me Jesus, Ride on King Jesus, King of Kings, Listen to the lambs, Oh how I love Jesus, The Lamb of God, It pays to serve Jesus, Mighty God, Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, and Outstanding.  Opera arias and duets from Porgy and Bess, The Barber of Seville, and Gianni Schicchi will also be featured.

The outstanding lineup of soloists includes local artists Evelyn Jack, Michael Rodgers, and Karen Nickell.  Brandie Sutton and Brittany Robinson are among the Knoxville Opera guest artists who will be accompanied by Maestro Brian Salesky.  “We are privileged to contribute to our community with this unique event that unites all music fans who appreciate diverse cultures” said Salesky, “and we are most grateful for the support of our generous sponsors who make this concert possible.”
