ALIVE AFTER FIVE WITH THE TENNESSEE SHEIKS

June 28, 2019

The Tennessee Sheiks is a Knoxville-based band, formed in 2005, that performs and eclectic blend of swing, gypsy jazz, bluegrass, alt-country, and blues, with a few Appalachian murder ballads tossed in for extra fun. Bandleader, vocalist, and mandolin maestro, Don Cassell, vocalist, Nancy Brennan Strange, and Don Wood, on lap steel and acoustic guitars, are original members of the band, and they also performed together in various other combinations for years. Over the years, there were some changes in personnel as well as additions. The current eight-member edition of the Sheiks includes Don’s brother, Ken Wood, on percussion, Barry “Po” Hannah on electric guitar, Michael “Crawdaddy” Crawley on harmonica and vocals, Marcus Shirley on piano, and Grant Parker on bass.
